In response to clients requesting Graypen's assistance at ports outside the UK, a new operations-section was established in 2000 to attend to this third-party business. The outstanding success which was quickly achieved resulted in the formalisation of the section into the Graypen Hub Agency. This dedicated team now coordinates more than 350 portcalls per year at ports inside and outside the UK

Focusing principally on business which requires tailored operational and/or financial services, the Hub Agency establishes with the client an agreed Scope of Services for the business in question, which template is then used to provide all necessary support and coordination for ongoing portcalls. By so doing, a highly disciplined standard service can be achieved across wide geographical regions, or commercial sectors, as required

Strict operational routines and specific financial parameters enable clients to achieve success in areas where either inconsistent frequency of calls, or activity in unfamiliar places, or port-calls in a distant time-zone, each of which requires the services of a reliable and proven port agency management partner

Physical attendance portcalls are undertaken by a network of Graypen's approved 'Partner Agents', although the Hub Agency can work neutrally to sub-appoint any other third-party agent who may be preferred by the client in a specific locality. However, all operations, communications and documentation remain always the responsibility of Graypen and the Partner Agent (or port agent) acts only and exclusively to Graypen's instructions. This is the key to how our consistently high standard is maintained

Unlike the 'global' companies, we do not use or promote a unique 'IT Platform' as a basis for communication of our service. We believe that clients know their own business very well and do not need us to provide a communications system for them. As such, our ethos is to simply use our expertise to improve the relevance of, and add value to vessel turnrounds in port, thus achieving positive benefits on all levels for our clients. Graypen provide an 'expertise solution' to the clients' port-agency management issues
